KADOC, the Documentation and Research Centre for Religion, Culture and Society of KU Leuven, is a national heritage organization that cares for an exceptionally rich collection. ODIS (www.odis.be) is the cornerstone of the digital research infrastructure of KADOC and one of the most consulted historical databases in Flanders.

In ODIS, KADOC offers coherent and quality information on how religion has influenced modern society and culture. The data series documents the history of civil society, religious institutions, schools, care facilities, trade unions and employers' organizations, church communities and parishes, migrant and ethnic-cultural organizations... ODIS also contains extensive biographical data, for example on priests and religious, politicians, academics, missionaries... Furthermore, you will find information on historical journals, archives, congresses, processions and church buildings.

A key undertaking for KADOC and the ODIS team is the CELSA research project "Émigré Europe", exploring the rich history of Central and Eastern European migrants to the Low Countries between 1933-1989. The project explores the experiences of migrants in their new homes; the societies they joined and set up (a major focus of ODIS' existing data), as well as how they interacted with the local populations, and with each other. We hope to expand knowledge of this extensive but little-understood migration context, as part of a joint project between KADOC and partner universities in Krakow, Budapest, and Prague.

In order to further complete and broaden the data series in ODIS, KADOC is looking for motivated volunteers. They receive thorough training, are well supervised and can carry out their assignments both in KADOC and at home. The volunteer contract provides for the usual benefits and expenses, for example for ICT and travel expenses.

We expect candidates to be discreet, precise and systematic in their work. Naturally, they should also show an interest in our field of activity and be somewhat familiar with PC work. For those candidates with a special interest in the CELSA project, migration history and Eastern Europe, we are looking for persons with a (basic) knowledge of Hungarian, Polish, Czech and/or Slovak.

Currently we are also looking for volunteers for, among other things, the input of data on priests and religious, and on parishes, educational and care institutions.
